Duke's
Story
In December 1997, Duke was picked up by a California Animal Control
Agency, who found him wandering the streets with a bleeding rear
foot. He had to do 14 days at the pound because his ear tatoos
were considered identifying marks, allowing a longer stay at the
pound. Greyhound Friends For Life had learned about Duke and
had volunteers on hand to take him to their sanctuary upon his
release from the pound.
Duke spent two months at the Greyhound Friends For Life kennel,
continually being passed up for adoption due to his age. He
was 9 and it appeared that no one wanted this special "golden
senior." A volunteer for Greyhound Friends For Life
agreed to take Duke to her home and foster him. It was love at
first sight. When Duke saw his foster mom he just knew this
was it and came into her home as if he had lived there his entire
life. Duke quickly settled in with the other dogs in residence
and three days later the volunteer failed fostering and adopted
Duke, finally giving him his forever and loving home.
